Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe’s Roof Garden

House of Fraser

Guildford

The roof garden at

House of Fraser

Guildford

Designed by Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe and finished in 1957, the Roof Garden on top of the House of Fraser building in Guildford is a well kept secret hideaway.

Designed around the launching of the first Sputnik, the garden’s pools of water, circular, saucer shaped fibreglass fountains, bridges and stepping stones were well ahead of their time.

The garden was recently featured on BBC 2’s Gardener’s World which gave a great perspective of the whole garden.

The maintenance is an ongoing commitment by House of Fraser - tending the existing plants, keeping the pumps and fountains cleared are among just some of the work required to keep the garden looking pristine.

Visitors can enjoy fabulous views over Guildford and beyond, while sipping a cup of tea or coffee with scones or cakes, or having some lovely food after a morning’s shopping, on the roof terrace.
